Privacy Policy for PDFUnion

Effective Date: September 2025

Last Updated: September 2025

Version: 1.0.0

⚠️ Important Disclaimer:

PDFUnion is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. All PDF processing occurs locally on your Mac. By using PDFUnion, you agree to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

1. Introduction

MarketFloor Technologies LLC ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use PDFUnion ("the App"), our comprehensive PDF utility for macOS with 30+ features.

🔒 Key Privacy Principle:

All PDF processing happens locally on your Mac. Your documents never leave your device unless you choose to save them to your own storage (e.g., iCloud Drive).

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information We Do Not Collect

  • Document contents (text, images, annotations, comments)
  • File names or file paths (beyond local "Recents" for your convenience; see §4.3)
  • Your Apple ID or any Apple account identifiers
  • Location data, contacts, photos, or other device data unrelated to PDF processing
  • In-app third-party analytics/trackers (no Google/Facebook SDKs in the App)

We may view high-level App Store Connect analytics that Apple provides to developers (e.g., downloads, sales). That's Apple's system, not an in-app tracker (§9).

2.2 Information We May Collect

A) Email address (optional, user-initiated)

  • What: Your email, only if you subscribe to our newsletter
  • Purpose: Send news, tips, and updates about PDFUnion
  • Legal basis (GDPR): Consent (Art. 6(1)(a))
  • Retention: Until you unsubscribe or request deletion
  • Control: Unsubscribe any time via the email link or in App → Settings → Privacy

B) Trial eligibility (Apple-managed for Annual plan)

  • What: We verify trial eligibility via Apple's App Store receipt
  • What we do not collect: We do not collect your Apple ID, nor do we derive or store any unique identifier from the receipt
  • Local state: We may keep a local flag (e.g., "trialShown") to tailor the UI. This flag does not identify you and can be cleared by deleting the app's local data
  • Purpose & legal basis: Provide an Annual-only 7-day trial and prevent abuse; legitimate interests (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) with minimal, local-only state

C) Crash reports (Apple-controlled, optional)

  • What: Anonymous crash logs if you enable Share Mac Analytics in macOS
  • Control: macOS System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements
  • Use: Improve stability; no personal data included to our knowledge

2.3 Support communications (including refund guidance)

  • What we receive: If you email us (e.g., about a refund or technical issue), we will process your email address and the content you send. If you attach receipts or screenshots, they may include Apple order numbers or your name
  • What we don't receive: We do not receive your Apple ID from Apple
  • Use & legal basis: Respond to your request and provide support (legitimate interests / contract)
  • Retention: Kept only as long as needed to resolve the request and for limited record-keeping (typically ≤ 12 months), then deleted
  • Tip: Please redact personal details on receipts/screenshots before sending; we only need the purchase identifier to help you navigate Apple's process

3. How We Use Information

Newsletter (if subscribed):

  • Send you product updates and news. No third-party marketing, no sale/sharing of your email

Crash data (Apple-managed):

  • Diagnose and improve app stability

No profiling or cross-app tracking.

4. Data Storage and Security

4.1 Local Processing Only

  • All PDF operations run on-device; no document content is uploaded to our servers

4.2 iCloud & other storage (user choice)

  • You may choose to save files to your own iCloud Drive or other locations you control. We have no access to your iCloud account or files

4.3 Temporary & recent files (local)

  • Temporary cache may be created while processing; it's auto-managed and cleared after operations or app close (typical per-operation limits 20–500 MB)
  • Recents list: Up to 12 recent and 8 edited items stored locally (file paths only, not contents). You can clear this list in the app

4.4 Security

  • Network communications (e.g., App Store receipt checks, newsletter signup) use industry-standard encryption (e.g., TLS)
  • We apply access controls and least-data principles internally

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

5.1 We do not sell or share your data for ads

  • We do not sell your personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising (CCPA/CPRA)

5.2 Service providers

  • Email newsletter provider (only if you subscribe). We sign a Data Processing Addendum and, where applicable, use Standard Contractual Clauses for international transfers. You can unsubscribe anytime
  • Apple services: App Store (licensing, purchases) and optional crash reporting

5.3 Legal requirements

  • We may disclose the minimal data we hold (typically just your newsletter email, if any) where required by law or to protect rights and safety

6. Your Rights and Controls

6.1 GDPR/UK-GDPR/CCPA rights (as applicable)

  • Access, correction, deletion (newsletter email)
  • Withdraw consent (unsubscribe)
  • Portability (newsletter email)
  • Object/limit processing (unsubscribe)
  • Lodge a complaint with your data protection authority

6.2 How to exercise

  • We do not knowingly collect personal data from children
  • Parents can contact hello@pdfunion.com with any concerns

8. International Users & Transfers

  • Newsletter emails may be processed by a provider located outside your country
  • We rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g., SCCs) and DPAs with our providers
  • App Store and crash data are handled under Apple's privacy practices
  • No document contents ever leave your device due to us

9. Third-Party Services

  • Apple: App distribution, licensing, optional crash reports; high-level App Store analytics for developers
  • Newsletter service: Only if you opt in to receive emails

Website analytics (optional): If you use analytics on pdfunion.com, describe them in your Website Privacy & Cookies notice (e.g., provider, cookies, and opt-out). The App itself contains no third-party analytics SDKs.

10. Data Security and Incident Response

  • We employ technical and organizational measures to protect the limited personal data we handle (newsletter emails)
  • If we become aware of a personal-data incident, we will notify applicable authorities and affected users in accordance with law

11. Data Retention

  • Newsletter email: Kept until you unsubscribe or request deletion, then removed promptly
  • Local UI flags (e.g., trialShown): Stored on your device only; not identifiable; cleared when you delete the app or reset app data
  • Crash logs: Controlled by Apple according to your macOS settings

We do not store any Apple-ID-derived identifiers or "permanent" trial records. Trial eligibility is determined by Apple's receipt, not by our servers.

12. Changes to this Policy

  • We may update this Policy from time to time. We'll post changes at pdfunion.com/privacy and, for material changes, we'll notify you via the app, website, or email
  • Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance
